Mohs Surgery

Mohs surgery is the most effective treatment option for the vast majority of skin cancer. For a detailed explanation of how Mohs surgery is performed please click here.

Reconstructive Surgery

The goal of dermatologic reconstructive surgery is to restore function and appearance of the skin before the skin cancer was removed. A defect can be allowed to heal or repaired with reconstructive surgery. Which option is right for you depends on the shape and location of the wound. As a fellowship trained Mohs surgeon Dr. Carranza was trained extensively to repair both small and large defects on the face and other parts of the body. At the time of your surgery, Dr. Carranza will discuss all of your options with you and, if necessary, repair the defect with meticulous care and attention.

Excisional Removal of Skin Cancer

Excisional surgery can be performed to remove some skin cancers. Using a local anesthesia the skin cancer is removed plus a “margin of safety” around the growth. Following the procedure, the specimen is examined by a dermatopathologist under a microscope to ensure that the growth has been removed completely. The area is then closed using sutures.

Removal of moles, cyst and other growths

Smaller tumors on the trunk and extremities can often be removed and repaired immediately in the office. Benign growths such as lipomas and cysts can be treated with an excision. Dr. Carranza can evaluate your individual needs and discuss your options with you.

Torn Earlobe or Split Earlobe Repair

Torn earlobes can occur due to trauma or after wearing heavy earrings for an extended period of time. Earlobes can then be completely torn or the area of the piercing can just be widened. The correction of this problem involves surgical removal of the damaged area and reattachment of the two healthy sides. This is a safe and effective treatment done in the office under local anesthesia. Healing time for earlobe repair is generally 4-6 week. During that time, clip on earrings can be worn after about 1-2 weeks. There is no down-time. The ears can be pierced again once the sutures are removed. If you are having a problem with split or torn earlobes and need earlobe repair call us to determine if you are candidate for earlobe surgery.

NAIL PROCEDURES

Dr. Carranza preforms several procedures on the fingernails and toenails in the office, including repair of ingrown nails, removal of nail bed growths, and biopsies of suspicious nail lesions.
